Opening an Account

Come on in! We’re very excited to help you open your TowneBank account.  To get started, simply visit a TowneBank office, or give us a call to set up an appointment. 

What is required to open a business account?

Depending on your business type you may need different types of identifying information.  For your convenience we’ve provided a list of documents required to open a deposit account (see below). You only need two (2) from the list that applies to your business type. Additional documentation may be requested based on your company’s organizational structure.

Also, please have your company representative bring two (2) forms of identification (one with a photo).  Accounts may only be opened by an authorized representative from your company, which includes company officers or the owner.

Acceptable Photo Identification for company representative

  • Driver’s license
  • Valid (unexpired) passport
  • Military ID
  • State issued ID Card

Non-Photo Identification for company representative

  • Social Security Card
  • Voter Registration Card
  • Health Insurance Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Employment ID Card
  • Pay Stub
  • Utility Bill showing your current address
  • Automobile registration card
  • Unexpired Work Visa
Corporation
Please bring your Employment Identification Number (EIN) along with two of the following:
  • Your IRS Acknowledgement Letter for the EIN (NOTE:  If your business does not have an EIN, apply for one online through the IRS, or call 1-800-829-4933)
  • Certified Articles of Incorporation, Corporate Charter or Government-Issued Business License
  • State Corporation Commission (SCC) Certificate
  • Front page of Tax Return
  • 501(c)3 letter for non-profit organizations or tax exempt documentation for nonprofits

Limited Liability Company (LLC)
Business owners opening an account must bring their Employment Identification Number (EIN) or their social security number along with two (2) of the following:

  • Your IRS Acknowledgement Letter for the EIN NOTE:  If your business does not have an EIN, apply for one online  through the IRS, or call 1-800-829-4933
  • Operating Agreement
  • State Corporation Commission (SCC) Certificate
  • Front page of Tax Return
  • Articles of Organization or Government Issued Business License

If a business owner wishes to use his or her Social Security Number, the IRS Acknowledgment Letter cannot be used as a form of documentation.

Partnership

  • Your IRS Acknowledgement Letter for the EIN
  • NOTE:  If your business does not have an EIN, apply for one online  through the IRS, or call 1-800-829-4933
  • Partnership Agreement
  • State Corporation Commission (SCC) Certificate
  • Tax Returns
  • A certificate of Limited Partnerships

Sole Proprietorship
Business owners opening an account must bring their Employment Identification Number (EIN) or their social security number along with two (2) of the following:

  • Business License (VA Only)
  • Front page of Tax Return
  • Certificate of Assumed Name
  • Social Security Card (A Social Security Card can be used if the business owner is opening the account with a social security number instead of an EIN).

Club / Organization/ Association

  • IRS Acknowledgement Letter
  • Meeting minutes
  • Certification signed by Secretary authorizing signatory
