A scholarship has been established to honor Judge Richard Bray by helping law students at Regent University. TowneBank is honored to support the Regent University School of Law with a multi-year commitment to create the Judge Richard S. Bray Endowed Scholarship.
“With the Bray Scholarship fund, aspiring legal minds at the Regent University School of Law will have the opportunity to pursue their dreams without the burden of overwhelming student debt,” says Gordon Robertson, Regent University Chancellor.
“You have opened doors that many considered firmly closed. Your investment in these future lawyers isn’t just changing individual lives; the ripple effects of your gift will be felt for generations as Bray Scholars go on to become ethical, principled advocates for justice. You’re not just funding scholarships; you’re crafting a legacy of integrity in the legal profession. We are honored to partner with TowneBank in this visionary endeavor.”
Judge Bray, who passed away in May 2024, embodied the spirit of a servant-leader. His judicial career included service on the Virginia Court of Appeals. He went on to serve as president and CEO of the Beazley Foundation for 19 years and then became chairman of the board of trustees. He was appointed to the corporate board of TowneBank in 2006 and named Lead Director in 2017, while also serving on the bank’s regional boards for Chesapeake, Currituck, and Towne Financial Services Group over the years.
Regent University has established a scholarship for law students that honors the late Judge Richard Bray.
Judge Bray was a remarkable man and a dear friend to so many of us. He was passionate about seeing and responding to the needs of his community and he found a kinship in that pursuit as a member of the Towne family. This scholarship will ensure that his legacy and his love for the legal profession will carry on to future generations.
Founded in 1977, Regent University has more than 13,000 students studying on its 70-acre campus in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and online around the world. The university offers associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in more than 150 areas of study. For more information, visit Regent.edu.
