Windjam Companies, a family-owned and operated real estate development and homebuilding firm based in Cary, North Carolina, continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the region’s residential landscape. “We have expertise in the entitlement process, horizontal infrastructure, and vertical construction (home construction).” Rex explains. “We start with something that doesn’t exist and create a thriving community where people can raise their families and make memories. To me, that’s extremely satisfying.”
Windjam has long targeted Chatham County, especially around Pittsboro for its beautiful land and emerging growth. With Disney currently developing a new community featuring more than 4,000 homes in Chatham Park, Windjam’s nearby projects – The Hamptons, The Summit, and upcoming Summit Terrace – have become flagship communities. These neighborhoods offer scenic homesites, including prime locations on Burnette Mountain, with sweeping views of the county’s natural beauty.
Windjam Properties is a family business – Rex Vick, Jr. is CEO/President, daughter Grayson Vick serves as COO/Broker, and Rex Vick, Sr. is Chairman of the company.
With a focus on family at Windjam, Rex’s daughter Grayson Vick, chief operating officer and broker and an NC State graduate from the Poole College of Management, joined the team four years ago. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to watch her grow and flourish in this industry,” Rex adds. “We’re a family-owned company, so having the next generation involved means everything.”

Rex’s father, Rex Vick, Sr., now 87, serves as Chairman and remains actively involved. “He has a wealth of connections and experience that are invaluable. I talk to him daily and value his guidance on our vision and direction,” Rex says.
Giving back is a Windjam priority. Each year, the company hosts a charity golf tournament benefiting Hope Connection International (HCI), a nonprofit supporting survivors of abuse and addiction. “HCI’s founder, Debra Barkett, was my daughter’s Bible teacher years ago, so we have an important history,” Rex says. “I now sit on the advisory board. We’re proud to support such a wonderful organization and have been instrumental in the relocation of their thrift store, Déjà Vu, to a great location in downtown Selma. All our associates take delight in helping Debra’s mission. She is such a visionary and has the biggest heart.”
Windjam’s growth has been bolstered by its relationship with TowneBank, led by senior vice president and private banker Kati Sessoms. “We had good relationships with several previous banks, but as they grew, we lost that personal touch. TowneBank has a concierge feel—that’s what we needed. Kati and the TowneBank team made our transition seamless,” Rex says. “Now we manage many deposit and lending relationships through TowneBank to include construction lending, insurance, and even bonds. I only wish I had made the move sooner.”
Windjam holds NC Unlimited General Contractor licenses with specialty classifications in Commercial/Residential Building, Heavy Highway, Excavation, and Public Utilities (water/sewer). In addition, the firm is a licensed sales brokerage with the North Carolina Real Estate Commission.
