When Dr. Jennifer Schneider first worked part-time as a scribe and technician for Suffolk Eye Physicians & Surgeons, she was still discovering the path her career would take.
After completing her undergraduate work at Old Dominion University, she went on to pursue a career in ophthalmology. Upon completing her residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School, Dr. Schneider joined her mentor at the Suffolk practice. Two years later, in 2013, she purchased and rebranded the practice as Schneider Eye Physicians & Surgeons.

Based in the Western Tidewater area of Hampton Roads, Schneider Eye has grown from a single location into one of the region’s most comprehensive eye care destinations. Today, the practice includes four clinical locations in Suffolk, Franklin, and Smithfield, along with an in-house optical shop, a laser vision correction center, and a medical aesthetic practice.
“Schneider Eye Physicians & Surgeons is a testament to locally driven healthcare entrepreneurship, community commitment, and clinical excellence,” says D.J. Schneider, Jennifer’s husband, who joined the organization as CEO in October 2022.
Services include cataract surgery, glaucoma management, diabetic eye care, dry eye treatment, LASIK, SMILE, and other advanced laser vision correction procedures.
The Schneiders also opened ReVISION MedSpa in 2022, expanding their commitment to patient care into medical aesthetics and wellness. ReVISION offers a range of advanced treatments, including IPL therapy, injectables, body contouring, skin rejuvenation, and hormone replacement therapy.
“It’s one of those things we thought this area was lacking,” D.J. says. “There’s a lot of exciting technology that has come out in the past several years in this space.”
D.J. credits the practice’s relationship with TowneBank Senior Vice President Betsy Totten as an important part of the organization’s continued growth. “TowneBank has been a crucial part,” he says. “I’m not exaggerating. I really think TowneBank provides the kind of financial partnership a growing local business needs. Betsy is a phone call or a text message away any time we need her.”
Dr. Schneider has surgical privileges at Bon Secours Southampton Memorial Hospital, where she serves as chief of surgery, as well as Bon Secours Harbour View Ambulatory Surgery Center and Sentara Obici Ambulatory Surgery Center. She also holds admitting privileges at Sentara Obici Hospital. She is also the first Eastern Virginia Medical School graduate to complete a residency in ophthalmology at EVMS.
In addition to her work at Schneider Eye, Dr. Schneider provides free eye exams, diabetic and glaucoma treatment, and cataract surgery for uninsured patients through Western Tidewater Free Clinic.

Her commitment to patients is one of the biggest reasons for the practice’s success.
“She’s so genuine,” D.J. says. “She truly cares about her patients. She doesn’t rush. She tries to be efficient with her time, like all providers, but she truly cares. That’s not something she learned. That’s just who she is.”
The Schneiders have six children and are active members of First Baptist Church in Suffolk.
