After years of working in mechanical services, Brian and Deborah Poole explored an opportunity to buy a Mr. Rooter franchise in 2017 and go into business for themselves. Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Virginia Beach has experienced remarkable growth since opening nine years ago. “Growth for us has been the story of earning trust one job and one customer at a time,” Brian says. “We started as a true husband-and-wife operation and worked alongside our first few hires. We learned exactly what homeowners and businesses in Virginia Beach needed, and we made sure that every customer walked away happy.”

As Mr. Rooter Plumbing’s reputation grew by word of mouth, Deborah and Brian were able to hire more technicians while also investing in better equipment and training. “That steady investment in our people and capabilities has carried us from a startup to a company with a team of 25 and revenue projected to top $6 million this year,” Deborah says. “What we’re most proud of isn’t any single number; it’s the growth that has been consistent year after year, and that growth is built on relationships.”
Mr. Rooter Plumbing is a full-service residential and commercial plumbing company. Drains are the company’s specialty – drain clearing and cleaning; sewer and drain repair and replacement; and pipelining and rehabilitation. The company also handles diagnosis, repair, and replacement for fixtures and water heaters, as well as water leak detection. Brian likes to say there is no job too big or too small for Mr. Rooter Plumbing.
Brian and Deborah are committed to their team and look for opportunities to help employees build their careers with the company.
Brian and Deborah agree that what is most enjoyable about their work is the people. “We enjoy watching our team grow,” Deborah says. “We’ve seen technicians move into leadership roles and watched employees buy their first home. It’s deeply rewarding to see people build real careers with us.” Brian adds that making a difference in their customers’ lives is meaningful. “Plumbing problems are stressful. We love being the ones to show up, solve the problem, and turn someone’s bad day into a good one. Whether it’s a homeowner dealing with a broken pipe or a business owner trying to keep operations running, that moment of relief on a customer’s face is why we do this.”
Looking to the future, Brian and Deborah have a vision to expand the company and maintain their focus on their employees. “We have created an in-house training program that allows us to develop our talent with hands-on technical training,” Brian says. “It is our commitment to developing the trades and future generations of plumbers.”
Mr. Rooter Plumbing has received numerous awards from the Mr. Rooter franchise system, including recognition for mentoring other Mr. Rooter franchises nationwide. Deborah was also honored with the President’s Award for her outstanding contributions to the success of the company.
