Grubb Printing & Stamp
Celebrating 153 Years in Business

Founded in 1872, Grubb Printing & Stamp Company is one of the oldest continuously operating companies in the U.S. “Grubb began as a rubber stamp company and that has always been a strong part of the business over the years,” says Steve Maclin, Grubb president. “The company gradually evolved into taking on more traditional printing. In 1979, the name changed to Grubb Printing & Stamp. Then-owner Patty Cochran was instrumental in moving the company into different niches, including shipping and manufacturing."
Grubb has evolved from a single press printing and stamp company to a state-of-the-art printing and stamp manufacturer as well as specializing in promotional products and apparel. Today, Grubb handles printing which includes brochures, business cards, and signage; warehousing and fulfillment; promotional products with an apparel division; and direct mail.
In 2022, Grubb merged with Specialty Printing and Marketing, expanding its operations along the East Coast. The company has a team of press professionals, designers, and marketers who serve a wide range of customers from small businesses to multinational corporations.
Grubb started as a stamp company and has grown over the last 150-plus years to take on more traditional printing.
“We appreciate the diverse business community in Hampton Roads. There are so many different industries here. We love the variety and finding new ways to support the community,” Steve says
With a current staff of around 30, the team has grown over the last three years. “We have eight press people on our team and seven of these talented folks are women,” Steve says. “Through mentoring and internships, we are bringing in younger people to learn and join our industry. Our goal is to evolve the business over time to keep up with the changes in technology. It’s rewarding for us to develop talent, find ways to serve our clients, and be good partners to our customers.”

Grubb is active in the community, working closely with organizations like Junior Achievement and Old Dominion University to find opportunities for interns to learn different aspects of the business. “We also support a number of fundraisers, providing promotional products and printing for many nonprofits,” Steve says. “We enjoy assisting nonprofits with design or print related training they may need. Many nonprofits don’t have extensive resources, so we like to find ways to help with their mission.”
Grubb is a longtime TowneBank member and supporter. “Patty was a big driver of this wonderful relationship. She started supporting the bank over twenty years ago and that strong relationship continues to this day,” Steve says. “TowneBank is a huge priority for us, and if there is something they need, we are quick to respond. As a bank member, our TowneBank advisors are an important part of our team and our growth planning. Relationships matter and we know our connection with Towne makes us a better company.”
