CPU Managed IT Solutions
Tackling Computer Problems Before They Happen

Having an IT partner who has as their goal to be proactive in solving problems sounds like an ideal solution for businesses of all sizes. That’s a specialty of CPU Managed IT Solutions (CPU), and their success is proof that their business model is working.
CPU started as a company in 1999 and was known as Computer Peripherals Unlimited. The company sold parts and fixed computers for the public, which included many ECU students since the business was close to the ECU campus. “It was a store at this point where you could buy computers, parts, video cards and so forth, since in those days it wasn’t as easy to shop online,” says Justin Daughtrey, CPU partner. By 2005, CPU shifted a little and started helping businesses in the area with computer repairs and networking.
Justin came onboard in 2008 and that’s when CPU signed its first business support agreement client. “What that means is a company pays us per month to manage their technology and to be proactive to prevent problems from happening,” Justin says. “Today those business support agreements are our bread and butter.”

CPU provides a dedicated account representative for each client and tailors IT support to the specific needs of each business. Acting as the central hub for all technology needs, CPU proactively identifies and implements improvements, so the business remains secure, protected, efficient, and up to date.
In 2020, the company changed its name from Computer Peripherals Unlimited to CPU Managed IT Solutions. “Our business model had changed, but we still had the old name that was hard to say and hard to spell,” Justin says. “Plus it didn’t convey the concept that we were trying to market. We were becoming more of an MSP – managed service provider. We rebranded our logo and our website so now our name reflects what we do.”
Justin started attending Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce events to introduce CPU to people. “We wanted to be in the room with other local businesspeople to show that we are part of the same community with similar goals. When one of us succeeds, we all succeed,” Justin says.
The team at CPU is ready to help Greenville area businesses with comprehensive services that help prevent technology problems before they happen.
“Every time our phone rings, someone has a problem that needs to be fixed. But with our business model, the calls are becoming less frequent. There is no way to prevent problems 100 percent, but our main priority is eliminating the issues clients have as much as possible to keep their network up, safe, and secure.”
Long range plans include possible expansion in North Carolina, but for now, CPU is content with providing comprehensive services to their clients. “We have a good footprint concentrated here in Greenville. We are doing well and are happy to be a part of the community. Over the last few years, we are proud that we have helped the area grow.”
Wes Barnes, TowneBank senior vice president and commercial banker, works closely with CPU. “We had been with another bank for a long time, but we decided to explore our options and found TowneBank,” Justin says. “We had conversations with Wes and everything he said made sense. TowneBank has the personal communication and local feel that we were looking for. It’s been a great relationship.”
