Building Beautiful Things

Pursley Dixon Architecture's chief goal is to make Charlotte an even more beautiful city. Ken Pursley decided to put down roots in Charlotte after researching southeast cities for a new hometown. He started Pursley Architecture in 2005, and the name changed to Pursley Dixon when Craig Dixon became a partner in 2012.
Ken started working for his first firm at age 16, so his architectural roots began early. While attending architecture school at Auburn University, he developed a passion for residential design and historic preservation. Ken and Craig graduated from Auburn University in 1993.
Craig Dixon, Browyn Ford, and Ken Pursley combine their talents to create beautiful things. Browyn leads the interior design part of the firm.
Pursley Dixon Architecture is known for its custom residential work that blends traditional and modern elements.
Pursley Dixon specializes in custom residential work, striving to create beautiful and unique living spaces that blend elements of tradition with a modern lifestyle. Over the years, the award-winning firm has grown to 21 employees whose work stretches from their home state of North Carolina to New York, California, Illinois, Colorado, Virginia, Vermont, and Florida.
More than half of their work is with repeat clients. “It’s all about relationships. We have grown up with these families photo of pursely staffand now some of their children have families of their own and want us to design a home for them. It’s fun to make that journey with them,” Ken says.
In 2020, the firm expanded to include interior design for their homes with Browyn Ford leading Pursley Dixon Ford Interior Design. Browyn enjoys coming up with the most distinctive solutions for each client. She employs different materials, art, and objects to complete the spaces and complement the architecture.
Craig explains what he appreciates about his work. “The biggest highlight for me is coming to work with people you want to be around. That backdrop allows us to be creative, to be able to dream and come up with great ideas. Then our team makes those dreams a reality.”
“We want to hire people who are the right fit for our mission and the legacy we are trying to create,” Ken adds. “It’s like a family that you get to choose. That’s what our working environment is.”

Finding Home – The Houses of Pursley Dixon published in 2021 and highlights some of the firm’s beautiful homes.
In the Charlotte community, Pursley Dixon supports organizations that are preserving historical landmarks like the Duke Mansion, built in 1915. Ken and Craig are members of the Duke Mansion Colonnade Society. “Beauty matters and our built environment matters,” Ken says. “We are putting our energy into making Charlotte as beautiful as it can be.” Ken served on the board of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission. They both serve on the Leaders of Design Council and work on affordable housing initiatives with the city of Charlotte.
Finding Home – The Houses of Pursley Dixon is a book published in 2021 that highlights fifteen of the wonderful homes that Pursley Dixon has designed. From rustic mountain escapes and dreamy retreats by the water to elegant houses in town, the book captures some of the distinct Pursley Dixon styles. It is available on Amazon and from other book sellers.
Senior vice president and commercial banker Andrea Williamson works with Pursley Dixon. “We followed Andrea from another bank. It is wonderful to see how happy she is at TowneBank,” Ken says. “It’s the right place for her and us. We realized that a smaller bank has the ability to make decisions quickly and that is important to us. During Covid, we felt taken care of at a level of service and attention that other people were not getting at the big box banks. It’s easy to have a relationship with a bank when things are good, but the relationship gets tested when things are tough. Our work with Andrea and TowneBank was solidified during Covid.”
