Helping Richmond Area Nonprofits

Since 2016, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic has raised money for Richmond area nonprofits. Held each year at the Country Club of Virginia’s James River Course, the 2025 tournament ran from October 17-19. The event features top golfers from the PGA Tour Champions. Justin Leonard won the 2025 tournament by making an eagle putt on the par-5 18th hole in the final round.
From the beginning, TowneBank has served as presenting sponsor for Birdies for Charity. A fundraising platform that operates in conjunction with the Dominion Energy Charity Classic, Birdies for Charity enables nonprofits to generate contributions through direct donations. Then the PGA Tour adds a 10 percent bonus to all donations received. Last year, more than 180 charities participated including Better Housing Coalition, Commonwealth Autism, Feed More, Boys & Girls Clubs, First Tee, the Perkinson Center for the Arts & Education, Capital Trees, Richmond Ballet, The Doorways, and Communities in Schools.
The 2025 tournament charitable impact was more than $2.3 million which means the Dominion Energy Charity Classic has given back over $16 million to local charities since the inception of the tournament and has benefited over 300 participating charities.
“Birdies for Charity has allowed us to fulfill our charitable mission of giving back to the local community,” says Kaitlin Luccarelli, community outreach specialist with PGA Tour. “We were so glad to partner with TowneBank in our eighth year to allow these charities to benefit from the 10% bonus that they can receive on funds generated.”
“At TowneBank, our culture is all about serving others and enriching lives,” says Alec Schleicher, vice president and commercial banker. “We were excited to partner for our eighth consecutive year and really give back to the community here in Richmond and beyond."

“We have been part of the Dominion Energy Classic and Birdies for Charity since the beginning,” says Pat Collins, TowneBank Richmond president. “The impact Birdies for Charity has had on RVA local charities is significant and we are proud to have been a part of it all.”
2025 marked the last year for the Charity Classic after Dominion Energy decided to end their title sponsorship. The Korn Ferry Tour will ensure that championship golf continues in the Richmond area with their tournament scheduled for October 5-11 at the Federal Club in Glen Allen.
