Heart for ENC
Expanding Its Reach in Greenville
SHARE
Heart for ENC started in 2016 as Heart for Greenville when a group of community leaders decided to help nonprofit and faith-based organizations by building a community where they can support each other, share resources, and encourage each other along the way.
Now the organization is expanding its outreach in Greenville as plans are underway to purchase the building they occupy at 101 W. 14th Street. In November, Heart for ENC launched a capital campaign – The Good We’re Building.
The $3 million capital campaign will provide funding to purchase the 34,550-square-foot building and complete plans to renovate the unfinished upstairs. Up to 30 nonprofits will be able to fill the space. The campus will be named in honor of Phil and Martha Flowers who have owned the property for decades and have provided space for nonprofits in the building.
Sid Bradsher (center right) has served as executive director of Heart for ENC since 2018 and has guided the growth of the organization.
Heart for ENC currently has 20 nonprofits at the central location, including Fellowship for Christian Athletes, Daughters of Worth, Disabled American Veterans, LIFE Ministries, North Carolina Stop Human Trafficking, Churched Outreach Network, NAMI Pitt County (National Alliance on Mental Illness), and Awaken Coffee, a shop that provides employment, skills training, and community connection for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Nonprofits enjoy rent that is below market rate and also can share resources like office equipment, internet service, and meeting space.
Sid Bradsher became the first full-time executive director of Heart for ENC in January of 2018. He believes that life is found in giving yourself away. “The more engaged you are with the community around you, the better your life will be and the more people you can help,” Sid says. He notes that the organization hosted more than 90 nonprofits at workshops during 2025, providing training and guidance to groups throughout Pitt County and beyond. “We try to come alongside them, to provide resources, help raise awareness and support and love them so they can thrive and change the world. That’s what we are all about.”
Heart for ENC hosts networking and training opportunities that are open to the public.
Some of the services Heart for ENC offers to nonprofits are:
- Training – Heart for ENC facilities a variety of group training sessions that are open to the public and offered at no cost.
- Coaching & Consulting – to help nonprofit organizations reach their goals.
- Networking – Heart for ENC believes nonprofits are more effective when they are connected with each other. The organization provides consistent networking opportunities throughout the year.
- Nonprofit Resource Guide – created to increase awareness of organizations in the Greenville area and the programs and resources they provide.
- Leadership Cohort – a learning-based small group of like-minded nonprofit leaders who are committed to walking together as they lead their organization.
Heart for ENC has been a TowneBank member since 2019, working with Allen Clayton, senior vice president and commercial banker. “It’s TowneBank’s vision for the community that sets them apart,” Sid shares. “Towne leverages its presence for the good of the community, and they set the bar for other businesses to follow their lead.”
TowneBank is honored to support Heart for ENC’s capital campaign. “We are grateful for the generous support we have received so far. TowneBank is an incredible partner in this and a matching grant from the Smith Family Foundation is a huge boost to our fundraising efforts,” Sid says.
