Creative Design Changing the Landscape of Charlotte

Beautiful by design is the tagline of DeSignia Landscape, and the company takes this mission seriously. Henry DeBoer began working for a small landscaping firm in 2002 and bought the business in 2006 when the owner retired. He renamed it DeSignia Landscape. “The first two letters of my last name, plus a play on the word ‘design,’” Henry explains.
Today, the company takes on projects in the Charlotte region that range from simple foundation plantings to major complicated installs that can take a year to complete. DeSignia has about 95 employees, though that number increases with seasonal workers. Henry explains that a key to DeSignia’s success is that after they finish a project, they maintain it.
“We can create a stunning plan for your property with a swimming pool, an outdoor cabana, a fireplace or firepit, outdoor living spaces, landscape lighting, and beautiful plantings, but what is critical is that we take responsibility to look after your space. We maintain what we install. That gives our clients peace of mind that the space we have created will have a long and fruitful life.”
Firepits, fireplaces, and kitchens create beautiful outdoor living spaces.
DeSignia Landscape provides a wide variety of services from foundation plantings to complicated installs all to ensure that everything is beautiful by design.
Meeting people and learning about their aspirations for their yard is what Henry enjoys most about his work. “Charlotte is a beautiful place with fabulous weather,” he says. “So naturally, if we can create gardens that invite the senses and attract gatherings for warm fellowship, then we have achieved our goal.”
He is devoted to his staff. “I classify DeSignia as a people organization. We have great employees as well as great vendors who work with us.” He describes one way he connects with his staff. “Every morning, we have what I call the ‘morning routine,’ where we have to get 95 guys out in the field to work. This morning, I talked to five of them just to see how their families are doing, how life is treating them, and I let them know how much I appreciate them. Later in the day, as I’m out visiting with clients, I check in with our team to see how their work is going.”
“Everyone on our staff is important,” Henry says. “Our common goal is to glorify God by being faithful stewards of his gifts … to inspire and encourage our staff from the office to sales to our staff in the field, and to honor our clients through extraordinary communication and workmanship.”
Henry describes how he first connected with TowneBank. “I had a good relationship with two bankers who are now with TowneBank. When I heard they were moving and I wasn’t getting the service and dependability from my previous bank, it wasn’t hard to make the switch to Towne. Then I found out that Ted Wolfe was coming to lead the TowneBank team in Charlotte. Our kids went to school together, so I had known Ted for a long time. That cemented the relationship with TowneBank even deeper, and I have moved all my personal banking, too. My private banker Alice Joyce is a very special person. She is always on top of things and has given me her cell phone number so I can reach her anytime I need her. I tend to take my relationship with TowneBank for granted, but I always know they are there for me.”
Custom pools and walkways are DeSignia Landscape specialties.
